LEAVE NO TRACE

We love the countryside as it is – wild, peaceful and clean.

In order to keep it this way, Hillwalk Tours is proud to support ‘Leave No Trace’ – a programme that aims to preserve the natural beauty of the Irish countryside. As more and more people take to the great outdoors, our collective mark on the environment increases. Litter, damage to vegetation and water pollution are just some of the results.

Practicing ‘Leave No Trace’ is simple – make it hard for others to see or hear you and LEAVE NO TRACE of your visit. Thank You

THE COUNTRY CODE FOR WALKERS

While out walking in the countryside, remember you are walking in areas where people live and work. In addition to that, we also share the countryside with wildlife, plants and animals, that add to its beauty and enjoyment for us.

To make sure everybody is enjoying your visit, the following are a number of important recommendations to follow when you are out walking:

  • Be safe – plan ahead, stay on the trail and follow the signs
  • Leave all gates and property as you find them
  • Protect plants and animals, and take your litter home – leaving only footprints behind
  • Minimise impact on fragile vegetation and soft ground
  • Protect walls, monuments and all archaeology
  • Take special care when walking on roads
  • Guard against all risks of fire, especially near forests
  • Always keep children closely supervised while on a walk.
  • Take heed of warning signs – they are there for a reason!
  • Respect and consider all people who live, work and visit in the countryside

STAY LOCAL!

Book a hiking tour with Hillwalk Tours and help to keep rural communities alive.

Small, local communities are a vital part of a country’s culture. Without them, each country would lose an important piece of its diversity; the traditions and customs that make them unique. When you book a hiking tour with us, you’ll be glad to know that your money goes straight back into these rural communities.

  • To the B&B owners, who will welcome you with a smile and a warm bed for the night.
  • To the shopkeepers, who will recommend local delicacies and who provide jobs to their friends and neighbours.
  • To the pubs and restaurants, who use the freshest of ingredients provided by local farmers and fishermen.

OUR COMMITTMENT TO MAKING A DIFFERENCE

At Hillwalk Tours, we are passionate about more than just creating memorable hiking experiences. We believe in the power of sustainable tourism and the positive impact it can have on our planet. Since 2014, we have been making charitable donations to numerous great causes and charities throughout Ireland and the UK.

The charities we work with embody values that resonate deeply with us. From the Irish Wildlife Trust, to Mountaineering Ireland, to the Scottish Wildlife Trust, to the John Muir Trust and many others, these organizations are on a mission to create positive and lasting impact for our environment, our safety, our wildlife and much more. Their focus on sustainability, habitat preservation, and the betterment of the world around them aligns perfectly with our own values.
