  • Day 1 Arrival in Laggan/Invergarry

From your point of arrival, use the public transport information we provide to make the journey to Laggan/Invergarry.

  • Day 2 Laggan or Invergarry to Fort Augustus (via Invergarry)

    11 or 8 Miles / 18 or 13 Km 4-7 Hrs 1310 or 520ft / 400 or 160 Metres

The trail now meets the second of the three lakes on the Great Glen Way – Loch Oichy. The dilapidated remains of an unsuccessful attempt to link Inverness and Fort William by train are clearly visible on today’s route and the old railway line serves as an excellent walking trail.

  • Day 3 Fort Augustus to Invermoriston

    High Route 7.5 or 9.5 Miles / 12 or 15 Km 4-6 Hrs 1800 or 2100ft / 550 or 640 Metres Low Route 7.5 or 9.5 Miles / 12 or 15 Km 4-6 Hrs 1350 or 1640ft / 410 or 500 Metres

Today you have two options: a high route or a low route.

Climbing out of Fort Augustus, you soon catch your first glimpse of Loch Ness. Have your camera ready – if you manage to capture a picture of the Loch Ness Monster you could make yourself a lot of money!

  • Day 4 Invermoriston to Drumnadrochit

    High Route 13.5 Miles / 22 Km 6-8 Hrs 2430ft / 740 Metres Low Route 14.5 Miles / 23 Km 6-8 Hrs 1640ft / 500 Metres

Today you have two options: a high route or a low route.

Stunning views over Loch Ness are your reward today for some steep climbs along forest tracks on the north-side of the lake. If you still have enough energy, we recommend a 4km detour to Urquhart Castle. Or perhaps a pint of the local brew sounds more appealing?

  • Day 5 Blackfold to Drumnadrochit

    10 Miles / 16 Km 4-5 Hrs 790ft / 240 Metres

This morning, you will be transferred to a remote location called Blackfold from where you will hike back to the village of Drumnadrochit. Hiking the Great Glen Way in reverse, there is a lovely variety between open moorland and forest paths.

  • Day 6 Blackfold to Inverness

    8.5 Miles / 14 Km 4-5 Hrs 1210ft / 370 Metres

Transfer from Drumnadrochit to Blackfold in the morning. From here, a peaceful descent along forest paths will lead you all the way down into Inverness. As you reach the outskirts of the city, you will cross over the Caledonian Canal one last time. A gentle hike meaning you’ll have plenty of energy left to explore the attractions of Inverness.

  • Day 7 Departure from Inverness
