Claire Allen Hillwalk Tours

Born and raised in Ireland, I discovered a love for adventure early on through the Girl Guides, where weekends meant campfires, muddy boots and learning that a compass is only useful if you actually know how to read it. That early taste of the outdoors soon grew into a lifelong curiosity. It carried me to Thailand, where I spent a year teaching English in a rural village. Along the way, I somehow ended up covering art, maths, health and science too – and to this day, there’s a small group of Thai children who proudly speak English with a faint Irish accent. A year later, I found myself in Australia, travelling in my much-loved 1989 campervan that rattled its way across deserts, coastlines and everything in between. Highlights included swimming with whale sharks, snorkeling with seals, skydiving over unbelievably blue waters and realising that the outback is even bigger (and hotter!) than it looks on a map. Australia gave me countless unforgettable moments and the freedom of life on the road made me fall even more in love with travel and the outdoors. Joining Hillwalk Tours felt like the perfect next step to combine all these adventures with a role that helps others set off on their own.

At Hillwalk Tours, I’m part of the Customer Experience team, where I make sure our walkers feel supported every step of the way. Whether that’s organising accommodation, fine-tuning itineraries, or answering questions big and small, my aim is to keep things smooth, simple and stress-free. For me, the best part of the job is knowing that a tiny detail on my end can turn into a big smile on someone else’s holiday.

Outside of work, I like to keep a balance between adventure and creativity. I’ve recently taken up crocheting, partly for relaxation, partly so I can say, “yes, I made this scarf.” When I’m not untangling yarn, you’ll usually find me hiking, swimming, or heading off on a spontaneous road trip. After all, every good adventure starts with the words, “let’s just see where this road goes.”
