  • Day 1 Arrival in Vigo

From your point of arrival, use the public transport information we provide to make the journey to Vigo.

  • Day 2 Vigo - Redondela

    8.5 Miles / 14 Km 4-6 Hrs 980 ft / 300 Metres

Leaving Vigo’s lively streets, the trail ascends through shaded woodland, where eucalyptus and oak trees form a natural canopy. Passing quiet hamlets and rolling farmland, glimpses of traditional Galician stone houses and horreos appear along the way. A steady climb rewards hikers with stunning views over the Vigo Estuary and the Ponte de Rande bridge before descending through peaceful forest paths, crossing small streams and medieval stone remnants, leading to Redondela, where the Coastal and Central routes merge.

  • Day 3 Redondela – Santa Marta (Vilaboa) (Overnight in Pontevedra)

    9.5 Miles / 15.5 Km 4-6 Hrs 1350 ft / 410 Metres

A scenic and varied stage that blends forest paths, Roman roads, and coastal views. Leaving Redondela, the trail climbs steadily through quiet neighbourhoods and wooded hills, offering glimpses of the Vigo estuary. After reaching the coast again at the lovely town of Arcade, pilgrims cross the historic Ponte Sampaio bridge. The route then climbs again and winds through peaceful countryside and shady forests, with occasional chapels and pilgrim shrines along the way. You finish the day at the little church of Santa Marta in Vilaboa, and will be transferred to your accommodation in Pontevedra.

  • Day 4 Santa Marta (Vilaboa) - Monasterio de San Xoán (Poio)

    9 Miles / 14.5 Km 4-5 Hrs 750 ft / 230 Metres

After a short transfer, you can choose between the main road or a more tranquil riverside path through Tomeza to guide you to the lively city of Pontevedra, known for its charming old town and the scallop-shaped Church of the Pilgrim Virgin. Leaving Pontevedra across the historic Ponte do Burgo, the Spiritual Variant leads through peaceful countryside and woodlands to the impressive Monastery of San Xoán in Poio.

  • Day 5 Monasterio de San Xoán (Poio) - Armenteira

    7.5 Miles / 12 Km 4-5 Hrs 1480 ft / 450 Metres

From the Monastery of San Xoán in Poio, you briefly continue along the shore of an estuary to picturesque Combarro, famous for its waterfront hórreos. A sustained climb through farmland and eucalyptus forest then leads over the Castrove hills. Passing ancient petroglyphs and panoramic viewpoints, the route descends to the beautiful Monastery of Santa María da Armenteira.

  • Day 6 Armenteira - Ponte Arnelas

    8 Miles / 12.5 Km 3-5 Hrs 300 ft / 90 Metres

From Armenteira, the Spiritual Variant follows the beautiful Ruta da Pedra e da Auga (Route of Stone and Water), descending beside the Armenteira River past old watermills, waterfalls and woodland. The route then continues beside the River Umia to Ponte Arnelas.

  • Day 7 Ponte Arnelas - Vilanova de Arousa

    7.5 Miles / 12 Km 3-4 Hrs 490 ft / 150 Metres

From Ponte Arnelas, your route winds through rural villages, eucalyptus forest and vineyards. You then descend towards the Ría de Arousa, where a wonderful coastal section past beaches and shoreline scenery leads into Vilanova de Arousa.

  • Day 8 Vilanova de Arousa - Pontecesures (by boat) & walk to A Picaraña

    7 Miles / 11.5 Km 5-7 Hrs 590 ft / 180 Metres

A unique and memorable day combining a scenic boat journey with a relatively short walk along the Camino. From Vilanova de Arousa, take a boat through the beautiful Ría de Arousa and up the River Ulla, following the route traditionally associated with the arrival of the remains of Saint James in Galicia. Along the way, you pass mussel farms, small islands and the historic stone crosses of the Maritime-Fluvial Way of the Cross.

After disembarking at Pontecesures, you continue on foot into Padrón, a town closely linked to the legend of Saint James. Rather than finishing here, you follow quiet lanes, woodland and small villages to A Picaraña, shortening tomorrow’s otherwise long final stage to Santiago and allowing for a more relaxed approach to the end of your Camino. Transfer back to Padrón.

  • Day 9 A Picaraña - Santiago de Compostela

    10 Miles / 16 Km 5-7 Hrs 1440 ft / 440 Metres

The final stage of the Camino Portuguese is both emotional and symbolic. After a short transfer, the walk begins again with quiet rural lanes that gradually shift from countryside to urban outskirts. Following a long but gentle uphill walk, the spires of Santiago’s cathedral suddenly come into view, at Milladoiro. Here, pilgrims used to be humbled by their first glimpse of the cathedral and they kneeled in reverence. From Milladoiro the last few miles of the Camino lead you into the heart of the city, through bustling streets and historic gates. Reaching the Praza do Obradoiro and standing before the cathedral is a moment of reflection, joy, and accomplishment – a fitting end to your pilgrimage.

  • Day 10 Departure from Santiago de Compostela

There are regular flights from Santiago Airport as well as bus and train services from Santiago to other Spanish cities and airports. Your hosts can usually provide the most accurate local details, but if you need additional guidance, our team is happy to help.
