  • Day 1 Arrival in North Queensferry

From your point of arrival, use the public transport information we provide to make the journey to North Queensferry.

  • Day 2 North Queensferry to Kirkcaldy

    17.5 Miles / 28 Km 7-9 Hrs 360 Metres

The Fife Coastal Path begins directly underneath the gigantic Firth of Forth railway bridge. Soon, you leave the hurtling trains behind you as the path heads eastwards along the coast towards the splendid village of Aberdour. From Aberdour, the path follows the coastline into Burntisland. A rather long road section (approx. 3.5km) will then lead you into the pretty little fishing village of Kinghorn. Afterwards, the trail heads north past the dramatic remains of Seafield Tower and into the town of Kirkcaldy.

  • Day 3 Kirkcaldy to Lower Largo

    12.5 Miles / 20 Km 5-7 Hrs 250 Metres

Leaving Kirkcaldy, there’s a lovely trail through Ravenscraig Park that takes you all the way to Dysart Harbour. We recommend you stop in at the fascinating Visitor Centre and café in the old Harbourmaster’s House. From here, the hike enters one of its least attractive sections as it leads you through urban areas affected by the local industrial decline.

  • Day 4 Lower Largo to Crail

    17 Miles / 27 Km 7-9 Hrs 270 Metres

If you like glorious sandy beaches and charming fishing villages then you will certainly love this section of the trail. Look out for the Robinson Crusoe statue in Lower Largo and the ruins of Newark Castle on the way into St Monans. If you’re feeling peckish, be sure to stop in at the Anstruther Fish Bar – a past winner of the UK Fish & Chip Shop of the Year. Continuing along the coast from Anstruther, a lovely remote path leads you into the quieter village of Crail.

  • Day 5 Crail to St Andrews

    14.5 Miles / 23 Km 5-7 Hrs 300 Metres

Leaving Crail behind, you walk along deserted coastline to Fife Ness, the most easterly point on the trail. Heading north, you pass some superb golf courses, none better than Kingsbarns itself. Continuing next to the beach, the trail now crosses some remote and quite rugged terrain before arriving at Royal St Andrews. Widely considered to be the birthplace of the game of golf, this busy little town is the place where Prince William and Kate Middleton went to university and it also boasts fantastic cathedral and castle ruins.

  • Day 6 Leuchars to Newport-on-Tay

    11 Miles / 18 Km 4-6 Hrs 120 Metres

Transfer to Leuchars in the morning. From the former Royal Air Force Base at Leuchars, the trail follows quiet tracks and roads into Tentsmuir Forest. Look out for the Ice House in the middle of the forest. Fisherman once hauled ice all the way from Dundee to keep their fish fresh in this isolated, but safe location. Today, the ruins are home to nattering bats. Take the bus from Newport-on-Tay back to St Andrews after your hike.

  • Day 7 Departure from St Andrews

There are regular bus services from St Andrews to Edinburgh and onwards to Glasgow. Full details provided upon booking.
